National Shooting Horse Association

Travis and Laura Smith have been married for 30 years and have been involved in the sport for 22 of those years together. (cue awkward switch from 3rd person narrative to 1st)....We have two children, Katie and Zane who are also competitive mounted shooters and horsemen in their own right (sort of, when they listen to their parents anyway). We're a family with a passion for the sport of mounted shooting and the desire to see it grow. Or at least Travis, Laura & Katie have that, Zane would probably rather ride his dirtbike.
At the National Shooting Horse Association, everything we do begins and ends with one simple truth: we are here for the horse.

The shooting horse discipline is a sport built on speed, precision, and partnership — but at the heart of every great run stands an incredible equine athlete. Our mission is to honor these horses by creating a comprehensive educational, training, and performance-tracking platform that serves the shooting horse community and preserves each horse's legacy over time.

By spotlighting their achievements, we support breeders, owners, trainers, and riders who dedicate themselves to developing these remarkable partners. Every statistic tells a story — of trust, grit, and countless hours in the saddle — and we believe those stories deserve to be preserved and celebrated. We are not a sanctioning body and do not host or sanction public competitions. We don’t compete with associations—we support them by preserving accurate, cross-association earnings history for horses, riders, and breeders.

Through our Shooting Horse Schools, we provide educational services and training programs designed to refine rider skills, expose horses to competition-like environments, and elevate the level of sportsmanship in our community. Our clinics blend expert instruction with supervised practice runs that simulate real-world competition conditions purely for educational purposes, fostering growth for both horse and rider while advancing the standards of the sport.

Whether you are a competitor tracking your horse's progress, a breeder evaluating bloodlines, or a fan cheering from the sidelines, we provide the data, education, and recognition that ensure these athletes receive the credit they’ve earned. Because at the end of the day, it’s not just about the buckle — it’s about the horse who carried you there.

We are here for the horse. Always.

Congratulations State High Point Champs!

Travis & Katie were the first ever to accomplish winning CMSA Missouri State High Point Cowboy & Cowgirl as father/daughter last season!

We're proud of our 100% home trained horses, and thankful for this amazing sport and all the sponsors and event producers that allow us to have it!
